At 66, Uncle Soh has lived a life shaped by the tides.
For 17 years, he travelled back and forth across the waters to Batam—week after week, year after year— working in the shipyards.
It wasn’t glamorous, but it was honest work. The kind that builds a life.
Recently, we brought him back to HarbourFront.
Not just a place…
but a chapter of his life.
This was where it all began and ended —every week. The ferry rides.
The routine.
The rhythm of a working man’s life.
He smiled when he noticed the ferry fare had increased—from $78 back then to $87 today.
We stood by the window together, watching boats glide in and out.
And just like that… his stories came alive.
The names of vessels.
The routes he used to take.
Moments only he could remember.
For a while, he wasn’t just a resident.
He was a man revisiting his past-
seeing pieces of his life still moving across the sea.
It was a small stop in our day.
But for Uncle Soh…
It felt like going home. ♡
THANK YOU, UNCLE SOH.
For sharing your stories and reminding us what truly matters.
